Ok here is the video battle report from the tourney this weekend! Neil played a great game I was a little over confident in my dice rolling ability because as you see I dont have any!!!!! Anyway it was a great game I'm glad everyone came down!!! I ended up in 12th place but got best painted! Neil won the whole thing!!! Enjoy the video!

There is no terrain on those tables! That little bit doesnt even meet the minimum of 1/4 table coverage... No wonder the tau got beat down!

Raven, I have to agree with Cain... where is the terrain? There is nothing to maneuver around or certainly not JFJ, which is very important for Tau. Is that normal for the tournaments down there? Or for that matter, in the general area tournaments? It could have an impact on the way lists are built for sure!

On a positive note, both armies looked great, as did the sportsmanship.

Excellent video and congrats to Neil for the win!

Ok on terrain yes it was a little light. But more than anything I think it was more of a placement issue and not so much of how much they had. the thing to the far left side next to the wall, yea the object the kroot were hanging out around probably should have been in the middle of the table.

Each table had six pieces of terrain. There were eight tables prepared for the tourney thats about all the terrain we had in the store! As to the placement of the terrain at Jaks we place the terrain at the beginning of each match. The players roll off and he who wins gets to place the first piece. When you place the piece you determine if it has trees or not and what save it gives so that both player know. When we play on off weeks we usually roll for number of pieces of terrain also. It keeps it random and fun. I know it looks light by the book standards but Ive played in tourneys in Foley, Bolscon and Memphis and they all had about the same amount... Maybe we could talk Sonny into buying some kits for us to put together.... Keep the comments coming Im all for any suggestions to make the games better.

PS I got beat down because I didnt set out Kroot to buffer and I didnt refuse flank away from the land raider.... If I had put the building in the middle all it would have done was split my fire. I was confident I could stop the land raider in the first turn and then shoot each unit as they walked across!!! Its kinda funny now that I think about it. Humble pie is best served cold..... Dont worry though Ive already challenged Neil to a rematch!

Understood Raven. Terrain can certainly be limited by what is available! One thought, use felt instead of expensive pieces of 3D terrain. Throw in 12 X 12" pieces of green felt for woods, 12 X 12" pieces of felt for a butte or impassable piece of terrain. It's amazing how inexpensive felt and tape to keep it in place are! (Early gaming experience!).

Anyway, I did enjoy the video and visit You Tube frequently for reports. Loved the definition of your video. Your army also looked great.

Well terrain is light for my liking but no less than most big tournies.
Ps. I placed 6th with Tau. Losing to drop pod ba..... terrain doesn't really help LOL.
16 folks lots of new players always good sign LOL......

The benefits of felt is that you can just use it as a border put a couple of mobile trees on it and wallah. True it doesnt block line of sight that well but it doesn't hinder the moving of models that much either. A tree in the way of your tank move the tree to another part of the felt.

I understand how this can be a benefit, and I'm not noking how many pieces of terrain you used. But they were a bit on the small size and you definatley couldnt really hid a land raider or a Rail gun tank behind them.

In my opinion there are 2 types of terrain for games:
1. those there to block line of sight and give cover saves (buildings, forests, etc....)
2. those place to impede movement. (Rivers, anything with water, Craters, fences,.....)

Now while you did have some of the first. You didnt really have any of the second.
