Gunnar Redmoon

Post by Guest on Sat Nov 14, 2009 1:11 am

well i finally settled on a Grand Company that i liked and decided to call my own. the Great Company of Gunnar Redmoon known for his extensive use of long fangs

The Wolf of the Red Moon is a terrible god of vengeance in Fenrisian society, a great skeletal beast that prowls the seven hells eternally devouring the bodies of the unworthy and yet never growing fat. the wolf lord who bears it as his personal symbol on the other hand is as broad as a menhir. a roaring laughing bear of a man Gunnar favours his long fangs more than most for the reasons that veterans make the best companions in the feast hall as well as upon the battlefield. a great teller of tall stories, gunnar took the red moon as his symbol after the invasion of Bal'yths Orb, where he claims to have killed so many eldar that their blood stained the planet crimson.

So we have an extensive use of Veterans meaning Grey Hunters, Long Fangs, and Wolf Guard. Thunderwolf are an elite of the wolfguard but i think ill keep them when i do Deathwolf's great company or a combined action.

So... we have our Wolf Lord

Were going to use Logan Grimnars rules and model for this guy to get that lovely Veteran feeling so
Logan Grimnar=275
rune priest=100 Living Lighting & Murderous Hurricane
rune priest=115 Living Lighting & Jaws w/ Plasma Pistol

priest are there for that lovely anti psyker and living lightning to add even more considerable fire support

were gonna skip the troops for right now and get at the main part of the list Heavy Support Long Fangs

Anti Infantry Long Fangs
Pack of 6=145
3x Heavy Bolters 2x Plasma Cannons

Anti Mech
Pack of 6=140
5x missile launchers

Anti Heavy Mech
pack of 6=215
5x Lascannons

Ok so we got the main characters behind this Great Company so lets move to the troops. We got plenty of heavy fire but this is looking to be a walking army so

Wolf Guard Troop Pack 1

10 Wolf Guard=270
2x Termie Armour 2x Cyclones

Wolf Guard Troop Pack 2

10 Wolf Guard=270
2x Termie Armour 2x Assault Cannons

ok right now were at about 1530 and it looks like we got some heavy fire power rolling out looks like we need some speed. but Todd with so many points invested in Heavy fire power wont the few vehicles you have get annihilated quickly? probably but what you gonna do brother!

well lets see i can squeeze in two packs of grey hunters at 5 wolves a squad and give them a rhino.

keep them safe and they should be fine.

Pack of Grey Hunters
5x Grey Hunters=110
1x Rhino

Pack of Grey Hunters
5x Grey Hunters=110
1x Rhino

so we got 21 Heavy Weapons some fierce bite from a wolf lord, very little speed but plenty of combat punch(sadly no power fists or power weapons in most of the lists)

this list can shoot out
2d6 autocannon shots
9 Missile shots
5 autocannon shots
9 Heavy bolter shots
5 lascannon shots
2 plasma cannon shots (hoping we dont over heat)
8 assault cannon shots

not great or steleky i think but who knows it might be fun for me to play.

kill points 12-14
53 models

so this is the list your gonna be practicing with for the forseeable future?

this is (at least the basis) of the "Todd List"
will you be bringing this list on dec 5th?

i am confused, perhaps you can explain your reasoning....

500 points in long fangs, expensive but thats your theme, so i will leave that alone for now.

2 squads of wolfguard, each with 2 terminators. Are you walking the terminators with the wolfguard and having them hoof it across the table? Because the non-terminators have no special weapons or anything...so i would assume they would stay with the unit

you have 2 units of grey hunters in rhinos, you know that the rhino's will most likely be destroyed quickly forcing you to hoof it with your entire army...you have no other distractions.

i like that you have a theme, but besides the long fangs, it seems a bit scattered (in my opinion)

oh yeah, and why the emphasis on long fangs over say wolf scouts or something else?

theres no fiscal way i could have this army close to ready in time. just not enough spare parts or heavy weapons lying around. but no dont consider it a todd list just another fluffy list like erik morkai's. just after the tournament and seeing how the long fang wolfguard combo worked i was pretty impressed with how it faired against everyone except russ (damn dow deployment) and plan to consider them in most space wolf lists.

rhinos are 50/50 either invincible or crack like eggs keep them off the board or in or behind cover and you should be fine.

its foot army for the most part and its designed to blast away like hell at range. also you can put logan with a squad of long fangs and give them two important abilities relentless or tank hunters and a few others. also i know it lacks the power weapons but i figure if i can blast it away at range what combat abilities i have plus logan and hold alot off.

idk i just like gunnar. the whole skeletal beast that eats all day sort of sounds familiar.

but i plan on having bits and pieces of all the great companies

i got/plan to have morkais scouts, deathwolfs thunderwolf cavalry, gunnar's long fangs, dragongaze/logans wolfguard and ironwolfs armoured assault (preds, whirlies, land raiders)

why not something like

Logan (gunnar)
2x rune priests

10 wolfguard in rhino with special weapon +power weapon
1 being a terminator with cyclone (joins long fang)

10 wolfguard in rhino with special weapon + power weapon
1 being a terminator with assault cannon (joins long fang #2)

10 grey hunters - 2 specials in rhino (preferably with a power weapon if any can have one)

2 landspeeders with multi-melta/assault cannon

#1 long fang - 2 lascannon, 2 missile launcher + pack leader with whatever you prefer

#2 long fang - 2 heavy bolters, 2 plasma cannons + pack leader with whatever you prefer

that way keeps your long fang theme, but gives you some mobility and hand to hand. A list like this allows you to compete in all phases of the game (movement, shooty AND assault) where as the original you basically counting on your shooting...

you want fluff list?

THIS is a wolf fluff list
you take:

1 wolflord
1 rune priest
1 wolf priest

6 wolfguard
5 guys kitted for close combat in a razerback (wolf lord goes here)
1 terminator with heavy weapon to join the long fangs

10 grey hunters
9 blood claws (wolf priest here)
9 blood claws (rune priest here)
all in rhinos

wolf scouts

long fang (probably should be anti-tank)
whirlwind
predator (dakkapred of course)

dont see you getting much fluffier a wolf list than this
probably will suck, but its FLUFFY right....

But it does not pertain to gunnar redmoon as erik morkai's list did. thats the whole point

bout as fluffy as this guy

Also when I say that I'm using this chapter I mean its easier to paint black instead of yellow as well

lol its a frame, an outline, not an actual list.
put how many you would want to run in the list....

was just trying to help, keep your theme and make the list playable. But you build the list you want....

Y no dreadnaughts? Nothing says fluffy veteran than a dreadnaught. Who says it has to be venerable.

Well they could be an hq back then and they barely contested elites
However with all these new stellar choices and wolf guard now able to take up more than one force org.
Just so many better choices
